Father and son make driving for Tyson Foods a family affair

Michael Reese Sr. chose truck driving as a second career because he felt he needed a change –it’s a decision he’s never regretted. Known around here as “Big Mike”, Mike Sr. has been a part of our Tyson team for nearly four years.

“Becoming a truck driver is the best decision I ever made,” he says. “I get to see the country. I really enjoy driving, so now I get to do what I love every day.”

A year ago, Big Mike’s son, Mike Jr., joined him here at Tyson. The father and son are solo company drivers, but they’re able to meet up often when they’re out on the road.

“We get to stay in touch a lot and go to the same places,” says Big Mike “A lot of our conversations are about what we’ve been able to see, do and the experiences we’ve had together.”

Mike Jr., also known as “Little Mike”, enjoys the opportunity to stay connected with his dad, too.

“Everything we do and see is time we get to spend together,” he explains. “It’s actually pretty cool to be able to go to another state and see my dad.”

Big Mike says he loves being a Tyson driver because of the great equipment, our family-oriented atmosphere, and the number of miles he consistently gets. In his time working with us, he’s driven 500,000 safe miles. Little Mike is also a powerhouse behind the wheel and has already reached 100,000 safe miles during his first year.

For Little Mike, working at the same company as his dad is a valuable advantage.

“I’ve learned a lot from my dad through his experiences,” adds Little Mike. “If I’m confused about something, he’s always here to help me.”
