This is a driver position responsible for the transport and delivery of freight on time in a professional manner by driving diesel-powered tractor/trailer combinations short and long distances, while complying with Department of Transportation rules and regulations, maintaining a safe work environment, and adhering to Tyson policies and procedures.
Tasks: This position is responsible for the operation of a commercial vehicle to haul live birds from Grower farms to the Processing Plant. Must be willing to transport trailers loaded with empty cages to the Grower farm to be loaded with birds. Once the cages are filled and stacked on the trailer by the Catch Crew, the Driver must be willing to transport trailers back to the Processing Plant where the Driver will drop the trailer on the scales or in the Live Haul Shed. Driver is responsible for ensuring that loads are secure before traveling to and from the farm and the Processing Plant; therefore, Drivers must be willing to bind and unbind cages as needed. Perform all duties in accordance with company policies and procedures and comply with all federal, state, and local regulations for the secure and safe operation of a commercial motor vehicle. Must follow all DOT rules and regulations in addition to all Tyson Food's policies to include Animal Welfare and Bio-Security guidelines. Requirements: Monday - Thursday; some Fridays, overtime, and holiday work required.
Must possess a valid Alabama Class A CDL. Must be at least 21 years of age to be considered for this position. Must have a DOT certification on the date of posting. Must have nine (9) out of the last twelve (12) months or one (1) year of verifiable experience in type vehicle that will be operated. Experience hauling top heavy loads on narrow, rural roads is preferred, but not required. Must be able to obtain a medical card as required by DOT. No DUI/DWI conviction in the past eight (8) years in a personal vehicle. No DUI/DWI conviction in Commercial Motor Vehicle ever. No DOT Drug or Alcohol Violation within the past three (3) years, including Roadside inspection violations as identified on locations PSP report. Must pass a driving test. Must pass a new DOT physical and new DOT drug Screen for pre-employment. Must meet the Tyson Driver Evaluations System requirements that involve but not limited to: Points, DUI/DWI Rules and Drug and Alcohol Testing. Must not have six (6) or more Driver Points to be considered.
Must be able to read and understand Tyson Fleet Safety policies and procedures as well as DOT rules and regulations. Must be able to read and write in order to follow delivery schedule and follow simple maps and directions to farms. Must have basic math skills to complete DOT records. Must be able to complete the required logbook. Must be able to conduct a thorough pre-inspection of the equipment and submit a written report on the condition of the tractor and trailer at the end of each trip. Must be able to drop, hook, spot, switch and otherwise interchange equipment when necessary. Must be willing to sit for 8 to 10 hours a day. Must be able to climb in/out of truck using 3 points of contact (approximately 16-20) times a day and climb ladders and stairs. Must be able to drive, shift gears, walk, bend, stoop, twist, reach, lift 25 to 50 pounds, and repeat all essential functions throughout the shift. Must be willing to work flexible hours. Must be willing to drive and work in inclement weather conditions: extreme heat and cold, rain, ice, snow, etc. Must be willing to work in a non-toxic dusty environment with occasional unpleasant odors. Must be able to pass a background check to be placed in this position. Must not own, possess, or otherwise maintain any domestic, wild, or exotic fowl to be considered.
Bonus: Sign-On Bonus: $2,500 at 90 days and $2,500 at 180 days for a total of $5,000.
